Hello everybody! I am Claudia Balleza, a 25-year-old Mexican teacher and student. Currently I am living in Lille (France) for my Master’s degree and I am eager to share with you my passion for languages, as well as my experience in learning and teaching them.

Back in Mexico, I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Modern Languages. It helped me acquire a variety of methods and approaches for teaching Spanish, English and French to a wide range of publics: children, teens and adults. My initiative drove me to start teaching long before having my degree, and I graduated having 2 years of teaching experience. Since then, my background has not stopped getting rich: I have taught in Primary Schools, High Schools, Universities, and in private classes for about 5 years now. All of this added up to my passion for traveling and sharing with other cultures makes me aware of the international challenges and opportunities of our time.

What about Spanish? In 2016 I worked as a language Assistant in France in 2 different high schools. I was renowned among the students and my colleagues for bringing enthusiastic and original activities to the class, both for practicing Spanish and for knowing Mexican culture. Presently, I continue to give Spanish and English tutorials to help French students improving their marks.

My concern is making my students feel how learning a foreign language can be a pleasure; because languages are dynamic, rich and adaptable as life itself. This is why I try to combine the 4 skills suggested by the CEFRL (oral and written comprehension and production), but I also adapt them to my students’ priorities.
I always include authentic documents from daily life (newspapers, radios, music, Netflix) and try to make the student produce as much as possible.

Lastly, I encourage them to be persistent all along their learning and help them to embrace Spanish (or any other language) as a part of their everyday life.

I worked as a Spanish Language Assistant for 8 months for the Académie de Lille. I was assigned to 2 different High Schools, were I was in charge of around 10 different groups of students. My main missions were: planning activities and producing resources to enhance students’ oral and written expression, introducing Mexican culture as a part of the wide Spanish-speaking community, and supporting extra-curricular projects and activities related to Spanish learning.

I worked as an English/French teacher at 2 different Universities for 20 months. During this period, I was in charge of multiple groups coming from different academic backgrounds (from Psychology to Engineering) and from very heterogeneous levels (from A1 to B2).
