My name is Alice Duncan and I have been an ESL tutor for just over five years. I qualified with a CELTA (TEFL) in 2015 and soon after moved to Hong Kong where I worked as a primary school teacher and private tutor to both adults and children. I returned to the UK in August 2019 and in September 2020 will begin my bachelors degree in Language and Linguistics at Sussex University.
I believe that private tuition should be tailored and moulded to the student, otherwise what's the point right? English is the most common second language in the world and there is no way that everyone is learning for the same reason. The first part of our working relationship will be me asking (and possibly you asking yourself) why do you want to learn English? What are you trying to achieve? Would you like to move to the UK? Do you have English speaking family you would like to be able to relate to better? Or will English give you the edge in the industry you want to work in? The answers to these questions will influence our curriculum, not the other way around.
