Hello, I’m Rachel. I’m from England and I am an English language teacher.
My background, before completing my TEFL Diploma was in Sales and Marketing where I was a Business Development Manager within the print industy. In 2012 I left England to travel and obtained my Tefl/Tesol certification in 2013. Since then I have taught in nursery schools, a primary school and junior high school. I have taught college students, adults and within businesses. My preference is teaching adults and with both my teaching experience and my business knowledge I can help you reach your specific English language goals in presentations, pronunciation, appropriate business language, preparing correspondence to use in the international markets, preparation of a professional CV or just the opportunity to speak English.
My teaching method will always be fun and interactive. involve lots of talking and discussions. I will try to find a technique that works to help you achieve your goals. I have worked with curriculums supplied to me and also created my own programmes and am happy to do either. It is important to me that my students enjoy my classes and leave feeling as though they have achieved something. I always aim to offer a level and subject that will interest the students and I try to be as supportive as possible.
I have been teaching English as a second language since I passed my TEFL exam in April 2013. It was a new challenge for me as my previous working experience had been in sales and management but the rewards from teaching are much higher. To date the teaching I have most enjoyed was an eight week course based around Creative Writing to a group of young adults at intermediate to advanced levels. I created this as a bespoke package covering various writing styles, addressing grammar points as they arose, looking at debating and public speaking and encouraging creativity and self expression.
I have also had experience of partial immersion English to Kindergarten children involving lots of reading, game play and singing. This style of teaching does not have the big rewards but one hopes that it gives the children enough fun and interests them enough that they want to learn more English.
Business English is yet another area I have experience and because of my commercial business background is a group I am very comfortable with. I taught within a large organisation giving weekly lessons following a text book but more often than not this would lead onto other points of discussion and exercise for the students. Another business client was keen to keep the instruction more conversation based so I used my own materials and built the lessons weekly depending on the way the group responded. Most of these have been at intermediate/advanced level so it has been the nuances of the English language that I have worked on, or specifics for the individual's work situation.
I taught English to 5 to 12 year old under-privileged children in a remote Nepali mountain village. During the 6 week volunteer programme I additionally organized sports day activities as well as extra curricular classes.
